Turing Point of the Radio
Impact of the Radio
The radio impacted society and the way wireless communication works. It impacted society majorly in three ways: mass
communication, leisure entertainment, and communication business. Mass communication has been proven to be far more effective
than print media because it could go farther and quicker according to the World Book Encyclopedia. Also the fact that it didn’t need any
physical transportation also drew attention to this new invention. Mass communication speeds up and makes it easier to communicate
with the radio and has been a base for other wireless inventions like the cell phones and wireless internet.
Another impact the radio made on society was entertainment. The radio has entertained many people in the past and will
entertain many more in the future. Even though people liked the radio because of the easy access communication it also was used as
entertainment. People would listen to music and shows that included comedy and dramatic programs. Many people just bought a radio
for entertainment and today we still listen to the radio for music and comedy programs. This had a huge impact on the way the radio was
looked at upon people it could be used for communication as well as leisure entertainment.
Lastly communication business was greatly impacted from the radio. The communication business used to always be by print
, but then wireless communication was invented. It changed the communication business forever. The radio was also a better option
than print because it was faster and more efficient. This lead to an increase in the number of radios, according to Professor John
Sullivan 60% of American families owned a radio in their household by the 1920s. The main way of communication is wireless in
modern day and the amount of print communication is getting smaller by every new advancement in wireless technology. The
communication business advanced thanks to the radio and the radio has been improved upon as well, thanks to the communication
business.
